On November 24, 2025, the President signed an Executive Order (EO) launching the Genesis Mission—a sweeping national agenda to put the U.S. at the forefront of AI-driven scientific discovery. The EO’s message is clear: AI is not just the future; it is now a strategic imperative for national security, economic growth, and technological leadership.

At its core, the EO recognizes that AI is no longer a futuristic concept—it is a strategic imperative for national security, economic growth, and scientific progress. The EO directs the Department of Energy (DOE) to build an integrated AI platform to train advanced foundation models on federal scientific datasets and to deploy AI agents capable of automating research workflows, testing hypotheses, and accelerating technological breakthroughs.

The DOE seeks to engage with academia and the private sector to identify a detailed list of more than 20 science and technology challenges that are suitable for the Genesis Mission, including:
